History of Hindu College Colombo


HCAN alma mater, the Hindu College Colombo sometimes known as Bambalapitiya Hindu College or simply Bamba Hindu, is a Tamil language national school situated in Colombo, Sri Lanka. It was founded in 1951.

The College started as Pillaiyaar Paadasaalai (Pillayaar School) on February 12, 1951 by the Hindu Educational Society, Colombo with mere 55 students and 2 teachers. Today the school boast over 4500 students and 120 teachers.

The school provides Tamil and English medium education for pupils aged 6 to 19 years in its Primary and Upper sections. Nearly all the buildings are purpose built and it includes the Science Laboratories, Computer Rooms, Libraries and Art facilities.

Purpose of HCAN

The purpose of Hindu College Colombo Alumni Association of North America (HCAN), is to render a meaningful and appropriate services to the betterment of the Alma Mater. In the process reunite friends from our alma mater around the world and build a strong network that can sustain for years to come.
